Born and raised in Corpus Christi, TX, Thomas Garibay began playing trumpet at the age of 9. Throughout his high school career, Thomas earned numerous local, regional, and state music honors as a member of the marching, jazz, and concert bands as well as the choir and orchestra. After graduating, Thomas went on to study Music Education at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Del Mar College, and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
Thomas’ mariachi career began at the age of 16 performing with the school mariachi ensemble. At the age of 18, Thomas began playing professionally with various local mariachis from Corpus Christi, TX. As a member of Mariachi Plata de Las Vegas and later with Mariachi Nuevo de Las Vegas, Thomas has had the honor of sharing the stage with such world famous artists as Placido Domingo, Arturo Sandoval, Shaila Durcal, and Beatrice Adriana just to name a few. He has also performed along side Mariachi Sol de Mexico, Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles, Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano, and Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan.
In 2005, Thomas moved to Las Vegas to teach mariachi in the Clark County School District. As a teacher in CCSD, Thomas has served as co-chair for the CCSD Honor and All-City Mariachis and co-chair for the CCSD Advanced Mariachi Festival. Thomas Garibay continues to spread his love of music with the Las Vegas community both as an educator and a professional musician.
